It's a kind of Magic

As part of our community outreach programme around 300 pupils from seven local primary schools, including Hackleton, Hardingstone, Delapré, Wootton and The Abbey, joined Year 5 and 6 High School girls for a preview of the musical extravaganza “We Will Rock You” on Tuesday 14 March.

The smash hit West End musical features many of the hits by Queen who joined with Ben Elton to create a futuristic story set in a time where the kids all watch the same movies, wear the same fashions and think the same thoughts. It’s a safe, happy, Ga Ga world. All music is controlled and musical instruments are banned. But Resistance is growing and the story follows a group of rebels as they try to free themselves from the “Killer Queen” and return to the Golden Age when the kids formed their own bands and wrote their own songs.

The audience delighted in the many Queen songs including We Are the Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, I Want to Break Free, Somebody to Love and Under Pressure, and enthusiastically joined in clapping along with many of the songs. After the show some pupils had the chance to meet a few of the stars of the show, who were overwhelmed by the response to the show, and they happily posed for photos.

All the children (as well as the adults) loved the show and it was fantastic to hear the excited chatter as they left.
