Mathematics

While we aim to prepare girls to achieve at the highest levels at GCSE and A level we also hope to share with them our enthusiasm and interest in the subject. Girls are always encouraged to explore Mathematics in a variety of ways.

In Year 7 girls are invited to attend Maths Club where they are presented with a range of puzzles and investigations. A Gifted and Talented programme encourages the most able mathematicians to develop their skills and prepares them for the Junior Mathematical Challenge which is also taken by girls in Year 8.

We set girls from Year 8 upwards and follow the Cambridge Essentials Mathematics Course in Years 7 to 9. At GCSE we follow the OCR Modular Specification A.  We have an outstanding record of success at GCSE Level. In 2015, 55% of girls gained A*/A grades, while in Statistics, 88% achieved A*/A grades.

In the Sixth Form we follow the AQA Specifications for both Mathematics and Further Mathematics. We are very proud of our record of success. In 2015,  nearly two-thirds of the girls studying A2 Mathematics gained an A* or A  grade and in Further Mathematics 100% of girls gained an A* - B grade.
