Friends of Northampton High School

Friends of Northampton High School (FoNHS) plays a pivotal role in the life of your daughter at Northampton High School. With the support of the School and staff, the Committee’s purpose is to provide fun and exciting events for the girls; an opportunity for them to enjoy social time with their friends and create lasting memories of their time at the school. Additionally, events for or including parents aim to create a sense of community, allowing opportunities for parents to get closer to the school in an informal, social environment.

The Committee

The Committee meet monthly to discuss ideas and plan upcoming events. These meetings are relaxed and informal and usually take place during school time. Should any meeting run after school, girls can attend GAP club free of charge to enable parents/guardians to attend. You don’t need to be a member to attend; just come along to listen or better still share your ideas and thoughts on how we can do more for your daughter(s).
The monthly meetings are also attended by Mr. Ross Urquhart, Head of Junior School and/or Mrs. Purvey-Tyrer , Deputy Head of Junior School.

Whilst we appreciate due to work commitments many parents can’t commit regular time, we would welcome parents support as volunteers to help the Committee members with the running of the events laid on for the girls. Volunteers play a critical role in ensuring the events run smoothly and to provide additional adult support as many of the events are attended by large numbers of girls. Without volunteers these events simply can’t run.

If you interested in becoming a Committee member or can help us with future volunteering please contact us via

Past Events and Activities

Movie night

Our ever popular Movie night was held on Friday 18th November and the girls were not disappointed! 'The Secret Life of Pets' was a great hit with the girls of all ages, and of course the now infamous hot dog, drink and ice cream at the interval went down a treat!

There was fun for the parents too as Mr. Urquhart held his Pub Quiz, which proved a great success with a healthy competitive spirit amongst the 6 teams. FoNHS provided a licensed bar with beers and prosecco and some sweet treats to keep everybody motivated and brains sharp!

Thanks to everybody involved in making this event a huge success including the site supervisor team, Kevin and Lee, kitchen staff, all the teachers on hand to support the smooth running of the evening, and of course the girls who made it a fun event for all.

Thank you to everybody for your positive feedback and kind words about the running of the evening and our plan is to continue with both events again later this year.

Rag Bag Clothes Recycling

Thank you so much to everyone who has put items for recycling into the Rag Bag recycling bin (located in the Junior School car park). A huge number of items have been deposited already this term, which is a great start to the year. We receive 40p per kilo from Rag Bag and in the last school year raised a total of £461.20 (and £653.20 in the previous year, our first year of using the Rag Bag scheme). All of this has been a very valuable addition to FoNHS funds.

Rag Bag have just informed us that due to rising costs, they have had to reduce the range of items they will accept for recycling. So we can no longer send to them curtains, bedding, towels or cushions. This means that the list of acceptable items is now strictly limited to:

• Men's, women's and children's clothes
• Accessories (bags and belts)
• Shoes (paired, using elastic bands or by tying the laces please)

Everything needs to be clean and in good condition. Wet or soiled items, school uniform bearing a logo, books or bric-a-brac are not accepted.

Many of the recycled items are sent to Africa and other developing nations to be reused so please continue to recycle as many items as you can. As well as benefitting people in other parts of the world, we are also helping the environment by reducing the amount of material going to landfill and in the process raising funds for school.

Thank you very much.
